Introduction

Occupational Safety and Health American Council (OSHAC) develop this course for empower delegates with understanding of the legal requirements applicable to lifting and rigging operations, the requirements for pre-use, preventive and planned maintenance, disposal criteria of lifting equipment, the SWL and WLL to ensure delegates employ lifting equipment and accessories in compliance with safety standards

Intended Audience

OSHAC designed this qualification for riggers, deck crew, construction, maintenance and mechanical technicians/supervisors and crane operators.

Course Content

To qualify for this program certificate, students must complete all required courses listed below. There is no time limit to complete the required courses.

  • Introduction to LOLER, PUWER and HASWA legislation
  • Accessories and equipment use during lifting and rigging operations.
  • Hardware slings, ropes, flat woven webbing slings, wire rope, chains, liaison Bodies and Accessories
  • Inspection and correct use of tirfors, chain blocks, pull lifts, beam clamps, wire rope.
  • Examination of rigging and lifting equipment
  • Utilizing recommend rigging methods to move various items
  • The Lifting plan
  • Identification and Marking
  • Mechanical strength of equipment/accessories and their safety factor.
  • Elements for calculating and sizing a sling
  • Commissioning, test before use
  • Use of protective slings to the edges Nodes
  • Protection against abrasion
  • Maintenance of slings
  • Precautions to be taken by the slinger
  • The gesture of command and control

Assessment Methods

This qualification is assessed by the Written Assessment (MCQ's).

Module Quiz

Each course is organized into modules. At the end of each module is a quiz designed to help the student self-assess their understanding of the course content. After submitting their quiz answers, the student is presented with the correct quiz answers. Quiz results are not recorded and can be taken multiple times.

Course Exam

After studying the course material and taking the module quizzes, students can take the course exam. The course exam is designed to test the students understanding of the course material. Course exams are composed of multiple choice questions selected from our extensive question bank.

Exam Characteristics

  • Students have two hours to complete the course exam.
  • You must achieve a minimum score of 70% to pass the exam.
  • If you do not pass the exam, you may retake the exam.
    • Students are only allowed to take an exam three (3) times within a 48-hour period.
    • After the third attempt, students must wait 48 hours before attempting the exam again. During this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.
  • After each exam, students will receive an email with references (module and tab) to content associated with missed questions. Students are encouraged to review the course material to improve their understanding.
  • If you pass the exam, you may not retake the exam to raise your score
