Defensive Driving Training

Introduction

Defensive driving is easier and more economical because the Occupational Safety and Health American Council have developed an updated online defensive driving course based on proven content from the prestigious OSHAC. Since 2005 more than 15 thousands drivers have learned to protect themselves and their families with courses featuring the most comprehensive, in-depth driver training curriculum based on the instructor-led courses from the OSHAC. The Occupational Safety and Health American Council, founded in 2005, is the most trusted and respected safety education provider in the world. The goal of the Defensive Driving Course is to train drivers in collision prevention techniques while promoting an attitude of mutual understanding, courtesy and cooperation on the road.

The Defensive Driving Course uses interactive learning environment where students analyze real driving situations, spot driving hazards and identify and execute the correct defenses. The course is approximately 6 hours long and may be completed in increments at learner’s convenience.

Defensive Driving Course Outline:

Session 1: It?s All About Choices

  • Explain what it means to be a defensive driver.
  • Define reasonable action and preventable collision.
  • Determine your driving profile.
  • List the three basic steps in the Defensive Driving Course Collision Prevention Formula
  • Explain the ‘What if?’ strategy.

Session 2: Ready for The Road

  • List the factors that you can control before you start to drive, including your own physical and emotional/mental conditions, as well as vehicle maintenance.
  • Describe the varying physical, emotional and mental conditions of other drivers on the road.
  • Explain how to be alert and defensive when sharing the road with these drivers.
  • Explain how to drive defensively in conditions beyond your control?such as light, weather, road conditions and traffic mix.

Session 3: Don?t Add Insult to Injury

  • Describe the characteristics of impaired, distracted, fatigued and aggressive drivers.
  • Identify actions you can take when you experience or encounter these characteristics on the road.
  • Employ techniques to manage your emotions and behavior while driving.

Session 4: Success on The Road

  • List the six most unsafe driving behaviors.
  • Describe the hazards involved with each of the unsafe driving behaviors.
  • List alternatives to speeding.
  • Explain how to safely approach and proceed through intersections.
  • Explain how to make safe and legal turns.
  • Explain the steps needed to complete a safe pass.
  • Determine a safe following distance.

Session 5: Collision Proofing

  • Apply the Defensive Driving Course Collision Prevention Formula.
  • Explain the ‘What If?’ strategy.
  • Recognize the hazards in collision scenarios.
  • Identify standard road signs colors and shapes.
  • Identify reasonable steps that might have prevented real-life collisions.

Session 6: Driving For Life

  • List the ten habits of defensive driving.
  • Identify personal behaviors and decisions you will make in future driving situations to avoid collisions and violations

This qualification is designed for drivers and who going to start career in driving field. The qualification is intended for candidates already working in driving any vehicle who would benefit from refresher training. This qualification reinforces the responsibilities of the drivers and will ensure their knowledge is up to date.

Module Quiz

Each course is organized into modules. At the end of each module is a quiz designed to help the student self-assess their understanding of the course content. After submitting their quiz answers, the student is presented with the correct quiz answers. Quiz results are not recorded and can be taken multiple times.

Course Exam

After studying the course material and taking the module quizzes, students can take the course exam. The course exam is designed to test the students understanding of the course material. Course exams are composed of multiple choice questions selected from our extensive question bank.

Exam Characteristics

  • Students have two hours to complete the course exam.
  • You must achieve a minimum score of 70% to pass the exam.
  • If you do not pass the exam, you may retake the exam.
    • Students are only allowed to take an exam three (3) times within a 48-hour period.
    • After the third attempt, students must wait 48 hours before attempting the exam again. During this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.
  • After each exam, students will receive an email with references (module and tab) to content associated with missed questions. Students are encouraged to review the course material to improve their understanding.
  • If you pass the exam, you may not retake the exam to raise your score
